About Us

Arete Outdoor Centre is a residence and activity centre in Llanrug, North Wales. Besides offering outdoor learning courses to schools, groups, and families, the centre also provides training and qualifications for future outdoor instructors. We spend all our time outside, enjoying the mountains, rivers, and coastline of Snowdonia or Anglesey. Up to 100 pupils can be accommodated through catered activities in the Main Centre, West Wing and Bryn Eryr, or as few as 10 in one exclusive area. There is equipment, training, and expertise at our disposal to meet the needs of diverse groups.
A coasteering adventure involves getting wet in the beautiful waters around the Welsh coast. At Arete Outdoor Center we provide everyone with a full wetsuit to keep them warm and buoyancy aids so non-swimmers are not left out. In the whirlpools created by the water moving around the rocks, groups love to float in the waves, be moved around by little flows, and even get twirled. Routes can be chosen to minimize or maximize swimming time, depending on the group's preferences.
While coasteering in North Wales with Arete Outdoor Centre, you can jump from heights of all kinds. From full-fledged jumps where you have time to think before you hit the water for adults and older age groups to simple steps into the water for younger ages. We give advice and coaching on the safest jumpstyle and the decision-making that goes into selecting a good jump spot during the coaching process. There is no mandatory jump height, so every individual decides what is best for them. When you are stepping off a real cliff into the open sea below, it is thrilling!
As we move from section to section, there are many opportunities to climb and scramble safely over the rocks. Above the deep water, we will perform climbing challenges to test our abilities. With Arete Outdoor Centre there will always be caves to explore and stacks to discover. It works well as a half-day activity combined with Sea Level Traversing, which is run at the same sea cliff venues as a dry roped activity. Combining the two activities makes for an incredibly diverse full day of activities. Generally, our coasteering venues are located on the west coast of Anglesey. Our north coast offers sheltered options if the seas are big. The stunning coastal environment and our extensive knowledge of the area enable us to choose the right venue for each group, weather, and sea conditions.
